A graying workforce, crumbling infrastructure, high demand, and the lack of skilled labor has created this perfect storm that we are dealing with today. Thankfully, school districts around the country have accepted that too many children are being pushed toward something that only puts them deep in student loan debt with no job opportunities once they graduate with their bachelor's degree.
The Carpenters International Training Fund has made a massive investment developing Career Connections. The curriculum is affordable to high schools and the best training material in the industry.
Career Connections authors are UBC carpenters, millwrights, and welders from around North America who have both teaching and field experience. Before adding a project to the program, the projects are first built and tested in UBC training centers.
Completing the pre-apprenticeship program provides graduates with a jump-start into their career as a professional carpenter. Graduates receive advanced placement at UBC Registered Apprenticeship Programs throughout North America.
“It’s a win-win for all facets of the construction industry,” O'Keefe said. “Students are presented with a great opportunity, the UBC maintains a pipeline of professional carpenters, and the industry receives highly-skilled professionals for their projects.”
